A Big Thank You to All Our Volunteers

It Was National Volunteers’ Week 1st June - 7th June

Engaging Communities Solutions (ECS) delivers many Healthwatch services across the country and our local teams of dedicated staff are taking the opportunity right now to say a big thank you to our local Volunteers.  We are showcasing the amazing work and support our Volunteers up and down the county provide to Healthwatch as part of the National Volunteers’ Week., 1st – 7th June, 2020.

All of our Volunteers have received an individual ‘Thank you card’ from each team. Some teams have personally delivered, the cards and wellness packs (following social distancing guidelines, of course) by way of thank-you to all their volunteers.  Each Healthwatch has been featuring pictures of our volunteers, case studies about their sterling support and also about how staff have been volunteering in their local communities, supporting people who are shielding. This has culminated in virtual coffee sessions for all our volunteers and also those people interested in volunteering, who have been inspired by the vital support our volunteers provide.

Our Volunteers Contribute Greatly to our Work

ECS Healthwatch services are the independent champions for people who use health and social care services. Healthwatch exists to make sure that people are at the heart of care. We listen to what people like about services and what could be improved. Our Volunteers work with our staff teams to reach many areas of our communities to enable everyone to have their voice heard.

ECS Volunteers are local people who know their areas and are often experts through their experience of various health and social care services. This enables them to really understand and provide meaningful empathy for the people they speak to, going on to collect important stories about the health services that they have experienced.

We then share these views and stories, that the volunteers help us collect, with those who are in positions of power to make change happen. We also help people find the information they need about services in their area which is so important for shielding the vulnerable and helping the wider community to access support from health and social care services during the current Covid-19 pandemic.

Healthwatch delivered by ECS has the power to make sure that people’s voices are heard by the government and those running health and related services. As well as seeking the public’s views ourselves, we also encourage these services to involve people in decisions that affect them. Our sole purpose is to help make care better for people.
